Academic award for the man who never liked school

JP McMANUS, the man who never liked school, yesterday received a doctorate from the University of Limerick.

That reluctant schoolboy is now an internationally-renowned financier, racehorse owner and part-proprietor of soccer giants Manchester United.

But yesterday's honour was most certainly recognition for Mr McManus's loyalty to his Limerick roots through work for local charities and endowment of significant scholarships linking his old school and the city's university.
