THE Government is to give responsibility for running the country’s health service to a State agency directly answerable to the Minister for Health.

Under the Health Service Reform Programme announced yesterday, a Health Services Executive will be the first ever body set up to manage and deliver services, replacing the existing health board structure.

Hospitals will be run by a National Hospitals Office, which will also oversee the location of specialised services.
