Trips abroad up 22%

THERE was a 22% increase in the number of people travelling abroad in the past two years, the Household Travel Survey published yesterday revealed.

Irish people took 4.5 million international trips last year, compared to 3.7 million trips in 2000, according to the CSO’s tourism and travel survey.

The number of people holidaying in Ireland grew by 17% in the past two years, up from 5.4 million to 6.4 million.
