THOUSANDS of special needs students won’t have access to resource teachers next month due to a huge backlog of applications in the Department of Education.

The Department hasn't processed up to 7,000 applications from students seeking special help when school resumes in September.

Around 5,000 requests on behalf of secondary students to the Department's National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS) haven't been processed.
