Fine Gael holds inquiry into election of Limerick mayor

He was elected with the support of six independents and two Fianna Fáil councillors, securing nine votes, while the official Fine Gael candidate, Cllr Maria Byrne, received just eight.

As recriminations continued, party headquarters decided to hold a private hearing in Portlaoise tonight.
