Brennan in drastic bid to cut queue for driving test
There are more than 130,000 people waiting for more than six months for tests due to a system plagued by understaffing, computer breakdowns and a massive surge in test applications. Transport Minister Séamus Brennan is to unveil plans to recruit retired testers and increase the amount of time available on a daily basis for testing.
A spokesman for the minister said it was hoped the measures could reduce the backlog by about 40,000.
