FORMER Dublin assistant county manager George Redmond will appear in court on corruption charges after his High Court bid to stop the proceedings failed yesterday.

The 78-year-old former official claimed he could not be tried before “an impartial and unbiased jury” because of the media coverage of his affairs.

Mr Redmond was given 21 days to appeal yesterday’s High Court decision. Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns said in his reserved judgement that, while there had been adverse publicity in the case, he was not satisfied that it would lead to a real risk of an unavoidably unfair trial.
