COMMUTERS are paying over 36% extra for some bus and train tickets than they were eight years ago.

Figures released by Transport Minister Martin Cullen show average fares on CIE services have increased by between 14.2% and 36.6% since 1998.

The price of an Iarnród Éireann ticket for the train from Dublin to Cork equated to €41.91 in 1998, but has since increased to €52.50 a rise of 25.2%.
