Irish prices 24% above EU norm, says survey

FURTHER evidence of consumers being ripped off emerged yesterday after a major international study revealed prices for food, drink and tobacco in Ireland are 24% above the EU average.

Ireland is the second most expensive country in the EU, surpassed only by Denmark where prices are 31% above the EU average.

The Consumers Association of Ireland said this was further evidence, "if any was needed", that prices for many common household items were becoming increasingly unaffordable.
