PROGRESSIVE Democrat chief whip Liz O’Donnell has labelled as “a joke” the Government’s failure to introduce legislation to regulate the charity sector.

The lack of regulation means the public have no way of knowing whether their donations are actually used for charitable purposes.

Legislation was first mooted more than a decade ago. The Government promised to publish a Charities Regulation Bill last year, but failed to do so. It has since said the bill will be published this year.
