Cork 2005: Voices Of Cork

OF the 2,000 ideas received, it came as no surprise that a big proportion came from the city’s thriving and energetic music world, and from its dynamic visual arts studios base.

Cork 2005 wants to acknowledge the practicing artist who chooses to live and work in Cork, and as a response, together with various promoters and venues, we are devising a strand of programming that will best present this unique energy throughout the year.

Similarly, Cork writers have continued to put the city at the forefront of film, literature and theatre, and so we have commissioned texts, in acknowledgement of that contribution, including work from Johnny Hanrahan, Conal Creedon and Conal Morrisson.

We have already initiated an exciting writing commission in partnership with the Everyman Palace under the direction of three of Ireland’s exciting young directors, Tom Creed, Oonagh Kearney and Thomas Conway.

Cork 2005, in collaboration with Note Productions, have commissioned Cathal Coughlan to produce a song cycle and performance entitled “Flannery’s Mounted Head”. The work is a fearless exploration of terror built from banal dreams.
