Greens call for land tax

THE Green Party has called on the Government to introduce a tax on housing land in order to tackle soaring house prices.

The party said the tax would be levied annually on land that is zoned for housing but remains undeveloped.

“Hundreds of acres of land are being hoarded by developers in the greater Dublin area. We need to make these developers build homes instead of hoarding their land banks,” Green Party spokesman on housing, Ciarán Cuffe said.
