UCC awards graduate of year prize to Douglas student

UNIVERSITY College Cork’s 2003 prize-giving took place yesterday with over 47 undergraduate and postgraduate prizes awarded to more than 60 prizewinners by Professor Gerard T Wrixon, President, UCC.

The 2003 Graduate of the Year Award is JJ Cahill, BComm. A student from Douglas, Cork, he graduated with a first-class BComm and as a student played a key role in the Commerce & Economics Society which won Society of the Year in 2001.

A new prize was awarded for the first time this year The MBA Association of Ireland (MBAAI) Prize.

The MBAAI is the representative group for graduates holding the Masters in Business Administration. The prize was awarded to the top UCC MBA Graduate for 2003, Tom O'Donovan.

The Science Graduate of the Year Gold Medal went to Brian O'Driscoll from Renvyle, Co Galway.

Brian graduated with a first-class degree in Geology and his exam results were among the best ever in Geology.

Professor Wrixon referred to how 55% of UCC students graduated with a first or upper second-class degree noting that graduate employment, at over 97% was testament to the successful policies and the pursuit of academic excellence at the university.
