Survey finds excrement in group water schemes

A report by the Environmental Protection Agency said it was unacceptable that over 30% of such schemes contained some level of faecal contamination in the latest tests conducted in 2001.

Official water quality standard levels were not met in over 10% of group water schemes, while more than 370 serious incidents of contamination were reported that year.
