Students tune in for final stages of quiz

OUR brightest students will be taking to the airwaves in the coming months for the final stages of one of the biggest schools quizzes.

Students tune in for final stages of quiz

The Thomas Crosbie Holdings (TCH) All-Ireland Schools Quiz reaches the latter stages next month, when the first quarter-final will be broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1.

The intervening rounds are still going on around the country but the teams from second level schools are all vying for the top prize of a 25,000 Apple mobile classroom. The iBook Wireless Mobile Lab allows the latest technology to be moved around the school, rather than classes booking time in a computer room.

Each of the quarter-finals and the semi-finals will be pre-recorded and aired by RTÉ on Saturday evenings, beginning on March 15. The action reaches a climax on April 26 when the grand final is broadcasted live from RTÉ studios in Dublin.

Shane O’Donoghue, who will host the programmes, is a self-confessed quiz fanatic but said he will be glad to have the answers in front of him.

“It will be great to watch the excitement build as we move through the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and I think that the final being a live broadcast will add an extra edge to proceedings,” he said.

Apple Ireland is already working closely with many schools through their national network of education solutions experts.

“Our association with the TCH quiz provides an ideal opportunity to further engage with the students and teachers of the participating schools and to open up meaningful discussion on how technology can truly enhance the learning environment,” said Apple’s Ireland manager Liam Donohoe.
