FROM the middle of September anyone caught making a call on their mobile phone while driving will be fined and could go to prison, the Government’s legal experts confirmed yesterday.

After a five-month delay over who could be punished under the law, the controversial regulations will be enforced by the gardaí when the Attorney General’s office issues its guidelines in mid-September.

Gardaí, who referred the regulations for legal clarification last March, will then start issuing fines to drivers using mobile phones in their cars.
