Teen dies after falling from wall into sea

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy lost his life after he fell from a wall into the sea at Kinsale, Co Cork.

He was yesterday named as Niall Waldron from Haven Hill, Kinsale.

The teenager was with a group of young people when he accidentally fell into the sea at Scilly, Kinsale, just before 12.30am yesterday morning. The Courtmacsherry lifeboat and the fire service were immediately called to the scene and the young man’s body was recovered a short time later.

Niall is survived by his parents Jerry and Sheila and his younger sister.

He was a transition year student at Kinsale Community School, and yesterday his classmates attended a special school mass organised in his memory.

School Principal Sr Mary Donovan said staff and students at the school were shocked and saddened by the tragic death. “He was very popular and contributed well to school life,” Sr Donovan said.

Kinsale mayor Billy Lynch said the entire town was saddened by the drowning. “Things like this bring home the need for a lifeboat in the town,” he said.

A lifeboat for Kinsale will come into operation next month.
