FISHERMEN vowed last night to fight plans for a scallop farm in Bantry Bay.

The Department of the Marine has granted an aquaculture licence to four men, Thomas Edgeworth, Bantry, James Courcey and brothers Danny and James O’Leary of Whiddy Island, to cultivate bottom scallops on the foreshore. A separate foreshore licence has also been granted.

They plan to set up a farming operation at four sites along the length of Whiddy’s southern shore.
