THE Government will receive a €250 million windfall under changes to the tax system to be unveiled today.

Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy will also announce a number of measures to crack down on tax avoidance.

The Finance Bill will change the time period used for the calculation of capital gains tax - the tax paid on substantial amounts of money made from transactions such as the sale of a house or cashing of shares.
