A GOVERNMENT report which shows that 1,000 nursing posts remain vacant underscores the urgent need for a Dublin allowance and increased shift rates for nurses, according to the Irish Nurses Organisation.

Nurses last night voiced concern that vacancies have decreased by just 4% in the past two years in spite of sustained recruitment and retention campaigns.

The INO is to seek immediate talks with the Minister for Health to discuss the final report of the Steering Group on Nursing and Midwifery, published yesterday.
