Taxpayer pays price for Cabinet’s costly errors

THE outgoing Cabinet’s final day in office was marred by the exposure of enormous levels of disregard for the interests of the taxpayer.

Ahead of today’s Cabinet reshuffle, the independent taxpayers’ watchdog showed the cost to the public of a series of questionable and botched decisions by Government ministers.

From the €50 million spent on the abandoned electronic voting to the failure to properly implement the penalty points system, the Comptroller and Auditor General showed widespread abuse of the public purse.
