THE spiralling price of sites in and around Killarney is putting pressure on local authorities to provide more affordable housing.

Recently, a site measuring between a third and a quarter of an acre in the plush Ballycasheen Road area, Killarney, was sold for around €420,000, according to property sources.

“Land is very scarce in the town, which has the National Park on the southern side and national primary roads on the Tralee and Cork sides, which all put a brake on development,” Killarney mayor Brian O’Leary, who is also an auctioneer said.
