Guitar generator sparks mid-air drama on plane

TWO musicians, one of them believed to be Irish, were at the centre of a mid-air drama aboard a British Airways flight from Naples to London on Monday, the airline confirmed last night.

The major alert was sparked off after a petrol-powered generator found on board forced the pilot to abort the journey and divert to Rome.

Wary of fears around the anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the US, BA officials launched an immediate investigation. They want to know how Naples authorities allowed the small generator used to power the musicians' electric guitars to pass through security checks and be carried on as hand luggage and placed under a seat. Nobody checked whether it contained fuel.
