Ahern or Kenny? Same difference, claims McDowell

JUSTICE Minister Michael McDowell yesterday claimed an astounding sea change in Irish politics by saying it didn’t matter whether Bertie Ahern or Enda Kenny is Taoiseach after the next election.

Mr McDowell founded the extraordinary assertion on a claim that whoever is the junior partner in the next government will define administration policy.

The minister, citing the influence of the PDs in the present Government and of Labour and Democratic Left in past coalitions, argued the junior partner defines the direction of government.
