Servisair set to shed airport jobs

WORKERS at Servisair will attend a meeting in Cork Airport today where they are expected to be informed of some job losses as a result of airline Jetmagic’s collapse.

Servisair, which employs 600 ground crew in Ireland, said yesterday it was hoping to minimise the effects of job losses at Cork Airport, where it employs 120 staff.

Servisair spokesman Peter White said the company was studying its options.

“The company is in discussion with staff trade unions following the Jetmagic suspension of operations. The discussions will concentrate on measures to minimise the impact on both the company and its staff,” Mr White said.

SIPTU No 5 branch secretary John Pearson said the proposals were likely to be known before 10am today, when staff and union officials will meet in Cork Airport. While the union is hoping job losses will be kept to a minimum, the most vulnerable would appear to be those on short-term contracts.
