THE driver of the school bus that crashed ten weeks ago, claiming the lives of five Meath schoolgirls, was a careful driver who never exceeded the speed limit, it was claimed yesterday.

According to witnesses, the driver never went over 35mph/55 kph which was 25 kilometres per hour under the 80kph speed limit.

Gardaí also confirmed they have taken more than 300 statements as part of their investigation and that a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions should be completed in the coming weeks.
