Edge loses planning bid

U2 rocker The Edge yesterday lost his High Court bid to quash a decision of An Bord Pleanala refusing him planning permission for a major extension at his home at Sorrento Cottage, in Dalkey, Co Dublin.

The lead guitarist had been granted planning permission for the work, subject to conditions, by Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown Co Council in January 2000. But the following month, An Taisce lodged an appeal against the decision and in October 2001 Bord Pleanala refused the application for the development.

The Edge was not in court when Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns delivered his 26-page judgment yesterday.
