EU takes government to task over An Post contract

THE Government should not have awarded the social welfare payments contract to An Post without advertising it, according to the EU.

The European Commission yesterday said it will refer the Irish Government to the European Court of Justice for breaching competition rules.

European Parliament member, Proinsias De Rossa, said the Government should defend its decision to give the contract, worth 45 million, to An Post.
