POLICE in the North were last night questioning a mother in connection with the murder of her baby son.

Mother questioned over murder of baby

Detectives arrested the child’s mother yesterday morning in Irivinestown, Co Fermanagh.

They are also looking for the driver of a dark blue car as part of their investigation.

Police have released few details about the incident, with not even the baby’s exact age disclosed.

The infant’s body was found last Thursday, prompting an inquiry into what until now was being treated as a suspicious death.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson said: “We can confirm this is a murder inquiry.”

A new house in the Spruce Hill area of the town has been the focus of the police inquiry into a suspected domestic incident.

It is believed the woman, who was being held last night, is in her 30s and moved recently to the new housing development.

Investigating detectives have appealed for anyone who visited Spruce Hill between Monday and Thursday last week to contact them.

They said they were particularly keen to hear from the driver of a dark blue car, possibly a Ford.
