Ahern dismisses accusations of cutbacks

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern yesterday robustly defended the Government against accusations of cutbacks and broken election promises across a range of departments.

Dismissing the cutback claims as nonsense and scaremongering, Mr Ahern said the Government was spending €3.6 billion more than last year.

“Now if you can work that into a cutback for me well then you must know the Lotto numbers next week,” he said.
