THE GOVERNMENT has been accused of secretly delaying grants for recycling programmes as part of another round of spending cutbacks.

The Department of Environment earlier this year promised some €127m to help establish infrastructure to support greater re-use and recycling of waste.

However, officials have told companies and local authorities who want to set up recycling schemes that only €12.5m will be available in grants this year.
