Private radiotherapy unit will still go ahead

THE MEDIC behind a new private hospital with radiotherapy facilities in Waterford has said that any public private partnership deal at Waterford Regional Hospital (WRH) would impact on his proposed service.

However, Dr Jim Madden said such a deal would not hinder progress on his Whitfield Clinic project in any way. Two linear accelerators, the machines which provide radiotherapy, are being installed on the Whitfield Clinic site, according to the man behind the project.

Construction work on the €45m clinic unit has already begun and is about three weeks ahead of schedule. The opening date has now been brought forward to April of next year, Dr Madden said.
