State pensions and carer’s allowance to rise

ELDERLY people were among the main beneficiaries of the Budget package.

From January, the basic State pension - the old age contributory pension - will increase by €14 to €193.30.

This pension, which is not means-tested, is payable to those over the age of 66 who have enough social insurance contributions.
