Bertie blanks on the dark side of Haughey

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern has given his verdict on the four-part Haughey series claiming it would show the younger generation “all the good things” the former Taoiseach had done.

According to Mr Ahern, Charles Haughey's achievements included the Financial Services centre and tourism projects like the Erne Canal.

Praising his former party boss, Mr Ahern spoke of "his (Haughey's) bravery in 1987 to face up to the fact that this country did not have to be a Banana Republic with debt that was higher than Ethiopia and unemployment that was among the highest in the world that we could in fact turn it around".
