IN spite of objections from people in some housing estates in Killarney, Co Kerry, pubs may yet be allowed in residential areas of the town.

Grady in favour of smaller pubs

Members of the local town council have agreed to leave new smaller pubs, with maximum floor space of 150 sq metres, “open to consideration” in a new draft development plan for the town.

Recently, an application for planning permission for a pub in a residential area, on the Cork side of Killarney, was refused. Objecting residents have again told the council they don’t want hotels, hostels, restaurants, or pubs.
