Probe launched after sudden death of baby girl
The infant was taken from her home at Shannabooley Road, Ballynanty Beg in Limerick and admitted to Limerick Regional Hospital shortly after 1pm yesterday.
She was pronounced dead on arrival.
Because of the sudden death of the baby girl, gardaí were notified.
A fter seeking the advice of the Coroner, gardaí then contacted the State Pathologist.
Gardaí confirmed last night that Dr Marie Cassidy will carry out the post mortem today.
“We are keeping an open mind on the matter pending the outcome of the examination,” said a garda spokesman.
A spokesperson for the Mid Western Health Board confirmed last night that the child presented at the A&E department of the Limerick Regional Hospital yesterday afternoon was dead on arrival.
“We understand that a garda investigation is under way” the spokesperson for the health board explained.
