IRELAND is near the bottom of the EU table for recycling packaging waste, according to the European Commission.

Commission data shows Ireland recycled just 35% of all packaging waste, compared to an EU average of 52%. However, the Department of Environment and industry recycling body, Repak, said the Irish data was out of date and Ireland will meet its 2005 target (to recycle 50% of packaging waste) by the end of year.
