PROGRESSIVE Democrats chief whip Liz O’Donnell last night questioned the Government’s commitment to the growing further education sector and its 30,000 students.

In a Dáil debate on the further education and Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) sectors, she asked why they seemed to be the Cinderella of the education system.

“There seems to be an elitism in all of this, a preferred focus on the traditional university, third level sector and now fourth level. We must get away from any notion that these courses are for disadvantaged students,” Ms O’Donnell said.
