Martin stands by insurance scheme

HEALTH Minister Micheál Martin yesterday defended a new medical insurance scheme that has been strongly opposed by consultants.

Mr Martin said the scheme for health workers was the best way forward and would be introduced in hospitals nationwide. He said the scheme would reduce the need for multiple legal teams and the incidents that gave rise to claims.

“It’s a very progressive scheme,” Mr Martin said in Tralee, Co Kerry.
