HIGH winds, driving rain and thick fog on Carrantouhill have dashed the record bid to conquer the five highest mountains in Ireland and Britain.

"Without a shadow of a doubt, we're all up for it again," said team leader Cathal Cregg, who decided to abandon the Wrangler Five Peaks' Challenge as worsening weather made the climb too dangerous.

"It was a hard decision to make, but it was down to me to make it.
