State employee warned after viewing internet porn sites

Use of computers in the Houses of the Oireachtas is governed by strict rules, including a total ban on “inappropriate use of internet and email facilities”, a spokeswoman for the Houses of the Oireachtas said yesterday.

The spokesperson added: “The guidelines would have informed staff that the transmission or downloading of material that is obscene, pornographic or indecent is strictly forbidden and that the office reserves the right to monitor internet e-mail activity to ensure compliance with office policy. These state that inappropriate use of internet and e-mail facilities will be regarded as a breach of discipline.”
