THE Government’s response to the number of suicides in Irish society was last night described as pitiful.

Fine Gael warned that the number of deaths was unacceptable following one of the blackest weeks in the south east, with an eighth person yesterday taking their life in Wexford.

Opposition TD Dan Neville said: “The resources allocated are a pittance. An additional €15 million was allocated to mental health services this year but that’s not even a quarter of the amount that was wasted on electronic voting.”
