EDUCATION programmes should be launched across the north-east of the country to inform parents of the best way to tackle the drugs scourge, a task force said yesterday.

The North-Eastern Regional Drugs Strategy highlighted the need for comprehensive parent education programmes and the development of a protocol for the treatment of teenagers presenting with drug problems.

Noel Ahern, the junior minister with responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy, has announced €2.5 million in funds to kickstart the action plans for the six Regional Drugs Task Forces.
