Parents’ group to survey special needs crèche care

A GROUP of concerned mothers are to enlist the help of other parents throughout the country in carrying out a survey of crèche care for children with special needs.

The Butterfly group, based in Castlebar, Co Mayo, conducted a survey in their own area which showed a willingness by all crèche owners to accept a child with disabilities but, unfortunately, none of the crèches had the facilities required.

When asked if any of the staff had been trained to care for a child with special needs, the response was 'no' or a failure to answer.
