Limerick stabbing victim named, man charged

THE Limerick man stabbed to death near his home in the city on Tuesday night was named by gardaí yesterday as 25-year-old Rory Burke.

Mr Burke’s body was found in Little Glentworth Street shortly before 11pm by passersby who immediately raised the alarm.

Originally from Shannon Banks in the Corbally area of the city, the 25-year-old had been living in a flat in Davis Street near the scene of his death for some time.

The area where his body was discovered was immediately sealed off by gardaí on Tuesday night, pending the arrival of State Pathologist Marie Cassidy yesterday.

A post mortem carried out at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital revealed that Mr Burke died as a result of stab wounds.

A 35-year-old man arrested in Mallow Street at 3am yesterday was charged with murder at Limerick District Court yesterday.

A woman in her 40s was also arrested at the same time and was helping gardaí with their inquires.

She was released without charge yesterday afternoon and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
