Alchemy creates 170 jobs

ONE hundred and seventy full and part-time jobs are on the way for the South Tipperary town of Cahir.

Alchemy creates 170 jobs

Alchemy Properties, a subsidiary of the giant Dairygold Co-Operative Society Ltd, is planning a €15 million retail project in the town centre which will provide a massive boost for the local economy.

A five-acre zoned site on the main Cahir/Clonmel Road has been earmarked for the development, which will have more than 4,000 metres of conventional retail uses, an 800-metre garden centre, and provision for more than 200 car parking spaces.

There will also be pedestrian and vehicular links between Clonmel Road and Cashel Road, which will encourage a through-flow of shoppers to and from the town centre.

The site is currently occupied by a Dairygold Co-op store and, if and when all the planning procedures are successfully completed, the construction programme will begin with a mid-2007 completion date anticipated.

At least 100 jobs will be created during the construction stage, and when the development is fully up and running it will generate 170 full and part-time jobs.

A county council decision on the planning application is expected early in 2006, but with overwhelming local backing for the development few, if any, major difficulties are expected.
