BARS and nightclubs must be on the lookout for underage drinkers when the Junior Certificate results are published today, an industry boss urged yesterday.

Drinks Industry Group of Ireland (Digi) chairman, Richard Dunne also called for the introduction of a national ID card system which he said would be the most effective way of stopping under-18s buying alcohol.

“Regretfully, the publication of Junior Certificate results can lead to a significant increase in the incidence of underage people trying to gain admission to bars and nightclubs or trying to buy alcohol from off-licences.
