McDowell ‘failed’ to honour pledge

THE Green Party last night accused Justice Minister Michael McDowell of reneging on an election promise that a controversial incinerator planned for his constituency would not go ahead.

As the Government agreed to proceed, through a Public Private Partnership (PPP), with the Ringsend facility, Green Party chairman John Gormley said Minister McDowell had let down his electorate.

“Michael McDowell’s failure to honour his election promises on this issue represents a serious breach of faith with the electorate. Not only did he campaign vigorously on this issue, he also made a point of criticising the Green Party in the leaflets which he distributed at the time.
