PUBLICANS are unlikely to call for a nationwide ban on Travellers entering pubs, the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI) said yesterday.

Feelings are running high among VFI members, especially in Co Mayo, where publicans in Westport have closed their doors to Travellers following recent alleged incidents. They have called on colleagues around the country to follow suit.

VFI president Joe Browne said he’d called a special meeting in Portlaoise tomorrow because publicans in Westport had endured a “hard time” recently with Travellers.
