Ramraiders hit shop to steal ATM cash
A jeep was driven through the front door of the Spar supermarket in Ballycummin Village in Raheen, Limerick, at 3am yesterday. It’s understood that the raiders were trying to steal money from the ATM machine located in the shop.
“We believe the intruders were trying to get at the ATM machine, the back of which would be located inside the shop,” said a garda spokesman.
“However, as soon as the alarm went off, they made a very quick getaway.”
Nothing was taken in the raid, but gardaí say over €10,000 worth of damage was caused to the shop. It’s understood that a four-man gang was involved in the ramraid. The raiders, who all wore balaclavas, made their escape in a red Nissan Almeira.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen the car in the area to contact Roxboro Garda Station on (061) 214340.
Meanwhile, the jeep which was abandoned at the scene was being examined by garda technical experts yesterday.
